JaneB and LizzyB are two young ladies who are interested in promoting what we call clarity and honesty in intergender relationships. In other words, we want openness and integrity in relationships between young ladies and gentlemen. Jane and Lizzy met through the influence of a young man who had much in common with Mr. Willoughby of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility. Since then, they have wondered how to help the ladies and gentlemen of their acquaintance find romances like that of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, rather than the failed relationships illustrated in Miss Austen’s books and carried out in their own and their friends’ lives.
JaneB, like Jane Bennett, is quiet and fairly reserved, especially with young men and anyone she doesn’t know well. She occasionally tries to flirt with gentlemen she finds interesting, but has been told her version of outrageous, blatant flirting is closer to most people’s idea of just barely being friendly.
LizzieB, like Elizabeth Bennett, is friendly and outgoing with anyone. She has occasionally been accused of being too forward with gentlemen, even though she tries not to show preference to any one gentleman.
We hope this blog will be frequented by ladies and gentlemen, singles, newlyweds, and “oldlyweds.” Ladies, do you agree with our observations, or do you have another viewpoint? Gentlemen, what is your perspective? Singles, do you run into the same problems we do? Married folk, how did you overcome these problems? We would like to hear from you all. Perhaps through this community we can begin to understand each other better.
